Convert files without handing them over.

LocalFileLab is a source-available, noncommercially licensed toolkit for conversion, compression, PDF tasks and OCR. File processing itself runs in your browser, without an upload pipeline for your content.

Why LocalFileLab exists

Many file converters start with an upload. LocalFileLab takes a different route: modern browsers can process images, documents, audio, video and archives on the device, reducing unnecessary data transfers and making the workflow easier to inspect.

The interface is designed to stay approachable while exposing advanced settings only when they make sense for the selected format.

Four tools, one local principle

  • Convert files individually with separate targets or process a category-safe batch with one shared target format.
  • Compress one file with individual settings or process a batch with one shared configuration.
  • Merge, split, extract, remove, rotate and reorder PDF pages.
  • Recognize text with multiple source languages and output formats.

Inspectable source, not a black box

The source is public under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. Private and other noncommercial use is permitted; commercial use requires separate written permission from the copyright holder.

What local does not mean

Your files are not sent to LocalFileLab for processing. The browser still downloads the website and, depending on the feature, runtime components, OCR language data or advertising content. See Security and Privacy for details.

LocalFileLab is a community project. Format support can differ between browsers and operating systems.
